Don't spoilers. Open Inside.
This episode is not what I was expecting. I'm not sure how I feel about that. It opens with us seeing Tara and Glenn in the back of the truck driven by the unnamed people we saw at the end of the last episode. Big Red, his name might be Abraham, kills a few walkers while smiling. Nothing really happens here. Whatever.
Then we come back to Carl and Michonne in the house, bonding over dry cereal. Michonne has claimed that she's "done taking breaks" and we definitely see that here. She starts giving Carl bits of her past, more than she ever gave anybody after the world went to hell. She's really earning some New Mommy points, even if Carl isn't as big of a fan of soy milk and her comfortable new shirt as I am. Now that she's back, Rick wisely let's Carl and Michonne hunt for supplies while he takes a nap.
While Carl and Michonne were scouting a house, she makes a game of answering Carl's questions after she reveals that she had a son who died. I was shocked that she just readily gave that up. She's even willing to make an ass of herself to try and make him laugh. (I think you're funny, baby!) However, once in the house, she finds a painting that's been defaced in the creepiest of ways. I was 1,000% convinced that Carl was going to fall into a crazy torture/sex dungeon while Michonne was investigating. Instead, she found the room where a parent, presumably the mother, shot her entire family to avoid the virus. It was actually a huge let down. I guess I'll have to wait longer for a torture dungeon.
Meanwhile, Rick's nap is disrupted by several random guys who enter the house. I bet Rick never thought he'd be hiding under the bed when intruders came. Nevertheless, he played hide and seek well enough for someone recently injured. A whole lot of nothing really happened except Rick killed a guy in a bathroom. Maybe I should be disturbed that this counts as "nothing". I think the question for today's episode though is what the hell was this guy doing sitting on a closed toilet seat? My guess was that he just sat down to take of his boots.
Rick gets out, blah blah. Him, Carl, and Michonne get out scott free. Then they amble towards the railroad tracks to see the same sign and decide to go for the (totally-sane) camp advertised. Hopefully they'll meet up with Carol and Tyreese.
The real gem of this episode is getting to see Glenn being a badass again. I think that's a given anytime Glenn's on screen. We get introduced to the three people in the truck that picked them up. There's Abraham (Big Red), Dr. Eugene (Captain Mullet), and Rosita. Captain Mullet knows what caused the virus and how to cure it, but it's conveniently classified. Between you and me, I don't think Captain Mullet knows shit. Big Red is also not thinking this through since he's ready to storm to Washington D.C. with the three of them and two pick-ups to save the world. Dude, you said the radio transmission has stopped. You think maybe they're all dead?
Luckily, Glenn's not having it. Still sick, he's still ready to march all the way back to find Maggie and Tara is going with him. I think Tara's a good girl. A little naive and probably not able to make it on her own, but loyal and good at heart. I think she'll be a good fit with our group. While Big Red and Rosita are trying to convince him to stay, BR says the last damn thing he should ever say (Maggie dead? You don't know Mags, bitch!) and gets punched the fuck out by Glenn. Glenn for President! At the same time, walkers filter out of the corn field (like in every horror movie ever - you should know never to turn your back on the corn!) and Captain Mullet picks up a gun. He takes out 1/3 of a walker and their entire truck before the rest of them take care of it. Good shooting, Tex.
Luckily, I think Captain Mullet is probably just autistic or at least very socially inept instead of a jerk and readily admits he's a crap shot and following Glenn (who is obviously more capable than any in his group) is the best short-term plan. Rosita is way ahead of him and Abraham eventually follows. He strikes me as the type of guy who is completely lost without a mission. He's also a jerk about it because right now it's the only thing that makes him important. Saving the world is important, but do you really think your little group is enough to do it? Fall in line, kid.
We didn't get to see anyone else in this episode and not a lot happened. However, Glenn's group drove for 3 hours and now they're coming back on foot. That's going to be a long walk with lots of potential for excitement. I can't wait for next week though since we saw a few clips of Daryl and Beth presumably trapped in a house being attacked.
I like exposition maybe more than most but I'm tired of the series being hogged by the most BORING crap from Rick and Carl. Come on guys! Also, Michonne's question to Rick about whether that house was home or just a stop over is driving me crazy. Guys, again what have we learned? Go find your family! You're all stronger than you think and you can survive together. Ugh.
